Blue Swedish ducks were imported into North America
in 1884 from Pomerania. They were included in the
American Standard in 1904. They are a medium sized
duck that have an elliptical head, medium length bill, and
a stocky body. The plumage is a uniform bluish slate,
with a white bib. The drake’s head is a dark blue with
a greenish bill, while the female’s head and bill are the
same blue slate color of the body.

Ducks have a tendency to dehydrate during shipping. We recommend the following upon arrival: (1)Provide an abundance of fresh sugar water in shallow water founts, with the water no more than 1/2 inch deep. (2)After about 10-15 minutes, when all the ducklings have had an opportunity to drink, remove all of the water. (3)After 10-15 minutes, without water, return the water and repeat this process 1 or 2 more times and do not let them ever run out of water. Our experience has shown that this process reduces the incidence of water logging, which is the main cause of early duckling mortality.
