Embdens are believed to have been developed in Germany. They are the most popular breed of geese and are mainly used for the commercial production of meat in North America because of their large size and rapid growth. Males typically reach 20 pounds at maturity, but it is not uncommon for them to reach 25 pounds or more. They are pure white with massive bodies and have a unique characteristic of ruffled neck feathers.
