Mallards are one of the most familiar breeds of duck and
are native to most of the Northern Hemisphere. They are
the ancestor of virtually all domestic duck breeds except
the Muscovy. Mallards are commonly referred to
as Gray Mallards, Greenheads, and stock ducks. Males
are typically recognized by their distinctive glossy green
head, white neck band, and rusty colored breast, while
females are a mottled brown.

Ducks have a tendency to dehydrate during shipping. We recommend the following upon arrival: (1)Provide an abundance of fresh sugar water in shallow water founts, with the water no more than 1/2 inch deep. (2)After about 10-15 minutes, when all the ducklings have had an opportunity to drink, remove all of the water. (3)After 10-15 minutes, without water, return the water and repeat this process 1 or 2 more times and do not let them ever run out of water. Our experience has shown that this process reduces the incidence of water logging, which is the main cause of early duckling mortality.
