With an insatiable appetite for insects, purple martins are quickly becoming one of America's favorite birds. They are the only wild bird species almost completely dependent on humans for nesting sites. Purple martins winter in South America and migrate to North America (east of the Rockies) where they nest. They arrive as early as January in parts of Texas, Louisiana, and Florida but arrive as late as May in states such as Michigan and North Dakota. It's important to have your purple martin home in place well before the first scouts arrive to better your chances of obtaining tenants.
